The three clearances of Copeland D8SK Piston refer to the end clearance of the piston ring in the cylinder, the side clearance in the ring groove and the clearance between the back of the Copeland D8SK Piston and the bottom of the piston ring groove.

(1) Check the end clearance. Put the Copeland D8SK Piston into the cylinder, use the top of the piston to push the ring to the bottom dead center of the piston ring, and use a feeler gauge to measure the clearance of the ring port. Different types of engines have different clearances. The first air ring of the Toyota Corolla 1.6-liter model is 0.2 to 0.3 mm, with a maximum end clearance of 0.5 mm; the second air ring is 0.3 to 0.5 mm, with a maximum end clearance of 0.7 mm and an oil ring of 0.1 to 0.4 mm. , the maximum end clearance is 0.7mm. If the end clearance is larger than the maximum value, replace the piston ring; if the end clearance is still larger than the maximum value after replacing the ring, replace the cylinder block.
(2) Check the backlash. Put the Copeland D8SK Piston into the corresponding ring groove, and measure the gap between the ring and the upper plane of the ring groove with a feeler gauge. Different types of engines have different gap sizes. The first air ring of the Toyota Corolla 1.6-liter model is 0.02-0.07mm, the second air ring is 0.02-0.06mm, and the oil ring is 0.02-0.065mm. If the clearance is not as specified, replace the piston.
(3) Check the backlash. In order to facilitate the measurement of backlash, it is usually calculated by the difference between the depth of the Copeland D8SK Piston groove and the radial thickness of the piston ring. Backlash should be in accordance with the maintenance manual.
