The function of the Copeland D8SK connecting rod is to connect the piston to the crankshaft so that the reciprocating linear motion of the piston becomes the rotary motion of the crank to output power.

The Copeland D8SK connecting rod consists of three parts. The part connected with the piston pin is called the connecting rod small end; the part connected with the crankshaft is called the connecting rod big end, and the rod connecting the small head and the big end is called the connecting rod shaft. The small head of the connecting rod is mostly a thin-walled circular ring structure. In order to reduce the wear between the piston pin and the piston pin, a thin-walled bronze bushing is pressed into the small head hole. Drill or mill grooves on the small head and the bushing to make splashed oil enter the mating surface of the lubricating bushing and the piston pin. The connecting rod shaft is a long rod, and the force is also large in work. In order to prevent its bending and deformation, the shaft must have sufficient rigidity.

The function of the Copeland D8SK connecting rod is to provide a place for combustion, convert the expansion pressure of the gas on the piston crown after fuel combustion into the torque of the crankshaft rotation, and continuously output power.

The small head of the Copeland D8SK connecting rod is used to install the piston pin to connect the piston. There are two ways to lubricate the small end of the connecting rod of the full-floating connection: one is to have an oil collecting groove or an oil collecting hole at the small end of the connecting rod, which is lubricated by collecting the oil splashed when the crankshaft rotates. This kind of lubrication is usually used. The method is called splash lubrication; the other is to drill a longitudinal pressure oil passage in the connecting rod shaft, using pressure lubrication.

The shaft of Copeland D8SK connecting rod is usually made into an I-shaped cross-section to reduce the mass while meeting the requirements of strength and rigidity.

The big end of the Copeland D8SK connecting rod is connected with the connecting rod journal of the crankshaft. The big end can be divided into two types: flat cut and oblique cut according to the direction of the split surface.
