Information

Common failures of Copeland discus piston are breakage, ablation, and wear. Pistons are vulnerable parts, and the price is relatively cheap. Generally, the pistons are not repaired in the maintenance of agricultural machinery, but directly replaced. But before replacing new parts, the reasons for piston damage should be found out and the reasons for piston damage should be analyzed to prevent the same failure from recurring.

Copeland discus piston

The carbon deposits on the Copeland discus piston are mainly deposited on the top of the piston. Because the fuel and engine oil entering the combustion chamber often cannot be completely burned, carbon deposits will appear on the top of the piston and the ring groove. If there is severe carbon deposit on the top of the piston, it will easily cause hot ignition, causing abnormal combustion in the engine cylinder; if severe carbon deposit in the ring groove, the piston ring is likely to be stuck in the ring groove, causing the cylinder sealing performance to decrease, so it should be removed regularly. Carbon deposits in the piston and cylinder. Carbon deposits on the top of the piston can be removed with a scraper. If there is carbon deposit in the piston ring groove, it can be removed by grinding the broken old piston ring into a suitable shape, but care should be taken not to scratch the bottom of the piston ring groove. Chemical methods can also be used to remove the piston with serious carbon deposits and soak it in a decarbonizer solution for 2 to 3 minutes, and keep the temperature of the solution at 80 to 95°C. After the piston is taken out, use a brush or cotton cloth to wipe off the carbon deposits, and finally wash it with hot water added with 0.1% to 2.3% potassium dichromate and blow dry.

After disassembling the Copeland discus piston, check whether the top of the piston is abnormal. If there is obvious depression or even cracks caused by the impact, the cause of the failure should be found out in time and eliminated. During engine operation, piston damage caused by impact is generally caused by too small valve clearance, inaccurate valve phase, broken valve springs, etc., which cause the piston to collide with the valve, or foreign objects fall into the cylinder during maintenance. For damaged pistons, if there is a depression on the top, but no cracks can continue to be used, if cracks or holes are found, new parts must be replaced. The damaged piston should be replaced with a new one.

The main function of the Copeland discus piston is to withstand the combustion pressure in the cylinder and transmit this force to the crankshaft through the piston pin and connecting rod. In addition, the piston forms a combustion chamber with the cylinder head and cylinder wall.
